One of my favorite Korean dishes is called sundae bokkeum (순대볶음). I’ve only eaten it at one place, so I can’t speak about other places. However, this one place is awesome. Tucked away in an alley in downtown Daegu, the place doesn’t even have a name! To find it, you’ll need a landmark. So first you need to find the Kentuky Fried Chicken closest to Banwoldang Station. Copy and paste the KFC address into Google Maps: 9-5 Samdeokdong 1(il)-ga, Jung-gu, Daegu South Korea. There’s an alley beside the KFC, and the place is just 50 meters down the path.
So what is sundae bokkeum? Well it’s basically sundae mixed with vegetables and spices and then stir fried. Sundae is a kind of blood sausage. Sundae tastes better than it sounds, but is still probably an acquired taste for some. You really don’t have to worry about the flavor of the sundae in this dish because all you will taste is the hot spices. If you don’t love spicy food, you won’t like this dish. In fact, the cook routinely uses so much spice that it gets into the air and I occasionally have to sneeze.
The menu at this place is limited, but the only reason to go there anyway is to eat the sundae bokkeum (₩ 4,000). I always order a roll of kimbap (₩ 1,300) to go with it. Have your money ready when you order because you have to pay up front. Also, if you aren’t interested in eating the other various intestines (lung, heart, liver), you can ask for your sundae bokkeum with sundae only. That’s how I prefer it.
FYI, the place isn’t completely indoors, so it gets pretty cold in the winter.
